Chapter 2: Do That “Boring Stuff” – The Secret to Growth

Seventeen years ago, during my first week at a new company, my boss told me:

*”Amit, we will have a 45-minute catch-up call every Friday.”

“Sure,” I said, “but if there’s nothing to discuss, can we skip it?”

He replied, “No. Unless one of us is on leave, we meet.”*

It felt unnecessary. Why hold a call when there was nothing urgent? But I listened. And for two years, we never missed that meeting.

The Power of Consistency

Looking back, those 45-minute calls were more than just check-ins. They became a habit—a cornerstone of rhythm, discipline, and accountability. Even when there wasn’t much to discuss, those meetings kept the team aligned, created space for reflection, and built momentum.

This taught me an important lesson: habits, no matter how routine or boring, are the foundation of growth.

Embracing the “Boring Stuff”

Fast forward to today, and I’ve carried this lesson into my work with clients. Once we set a plan, we stick to it—whether there’s groundbreaking progress or just minor updates. The “boring stuff” like regular meetings, updates, and training sessions doesn’t need to feel exciting to drive results. These small actions create consistency and accountability—the backbone of success.

The Joke’s on Us

It’s funny how we try to dress up these mundane tasks to make them seem important. But the truth is, the “boring stuff” doesn’t need glamor. It just needs to be done. Success lies in the discipline to repeat these actions over and over.

Just Do It

Growth doesn’t come from moments of inspiration. It comes from sticking to disciplined routines. So, the next time you’re tempted to skip the “boring stuff,” remember: this is where the magic happens.
